Nigerians Question Accuracy of Prophecies After 2024 Disappointments
Nigerians are expressing skepticism about the latest prophecies from popular pastors and prophets, following a string of unfulfilled predictions in 2024. Every year, many Nigerians look forward to the declarations of respected and popular religious leaders, hoping for insight into the country’s fortunes and future. However, the accuracy of these prophecies has been called into question, with many failing to materialize.

In 2024, several prominent pastors and prophets made predictions about economic recovery, political events, natural disasters, and national security. However, the reality of the past year painted a starkly different picture, with economic hardship worsening, insecurity persisting, and political tensions remaining unresolved.
One of the most notable unfulfilled prophecies came from Apostle Johnson Suleman, who predicted that Vice President Kamala Harris would win the US presidential election. However, former President Donald Trump won the election by a landslide and is set to be inaugurated as the 47th president of the US on January 20, 2025.
Another unfulfilled prophecy came from Prophet Joshua Iginla, who predicted that President Bola Tinubu would experience major medical emergencies and health failure. However, there is no evidence to suggest that this prophecy came to pass.

Despite the skepticism, many pastors and prophets have released new prophecies for 2025. Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, predicted that 2025 would be a landmark year, with God replacing earthly helpers with heavenly ones. Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, predicted that Nigerians would face more economic hardships in 2025, unless the government takes drastic measures to address corruption and cut the cost of governance.
However, not all religious leaders are convinced about the value of New Year prophecies. Bishop Tunde Adegbite, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Lagos State, described many prophecies as mere predictions generated from the reactions and comments of people on issues. Apostle Lawrence Achudume, the General Overseer of Victory Life Bible Church, said that New Year prophecies were unnecessary and amounted to a show of arrogance by clerics.
